Sunday 7/1/07 Away to Westfield.
A grey damp midday kick off away to the current
third place team Westfield, on a heavy pitch was the scene set for the Fry
Club B team Girls first game of 2007.
The Fry Club girls started very well and after
several missed opportunities and some excellent goal keeping from the
Westfield keeper, Amy put Fry's deservedly 1-0 up after about 10mins.At this
point the Fry's girls were dominate and Westfield were very much on the ropes.
However against the run of play Westfield levelled the score to 1-1. Amy put
the Fry Club girls back in front 5 mins later after some great passing
football and again Fry's looked totally dominate! All the action was now in
the Westfield half and it seemed only a mater of time until Fry's pushed
further ahead, only football is a "funny game" as they say. With
Fry's pushed up Westfield caught the Fry's Girls on the break and levelled the
scores at 2-2 . At this point Westfield got a little more confident and the
Fry's Girls dominance subsided as legs got tired and half time approached.
So at half time the score was 2-2 much against
the run of play. With the introduction of some fresh legs in the second half
it seemed a formality that the Fry Club Girls would finish Westfield Girls off
and take the three points.
But football is a game of two halves and
Westfield came out a different team in the second half and showed just why
they are in the top three of the table. They matched the Fry Club Girls every
move and the game was locked at 2-2 with chances being missed at both ends. With
about three quarters of the game gone Westfield broke the dead lock and caught
Fry's pushed up on the break to go ahead 3-2. The Fry's Girls were now reeling
from what could have been, and to add insult to injury Westfield snatched
another goal to make it 4-2 in their favour on the early blown full time
whistle.
For the third time this year the player of the
match was Emma who it has to be said was outstanding and just gave it her all
! Well done Emma.
Mentioned in dispatches this week are Amy for
another fine performance, Alice for a great first half ,even though she has
been poorly all week leading up to the game, Sophie who was a great
second half substitute and Emily Tite for a great hard working first
half. Well done girls!
